Broken Puppy Blog

On Wednesday, August 26, I found this puppy (approx. eight months old) in the road with two broken legs. She is a wonderful animal and we are raising funds to cover the costs of surgery and rehab. Keep checking back for updates on her progress.

My wife Rebecca and I are musicians living in North Carolina. We have an awesome rescue dog named Domino (pictured above). Rebecca is a volunteer at the local humane society. From the Broken Puppy and all of us, thank you for your kindness!

UPDATE: Due to the tremendous response to Hope's struggles, we now feel that her medical expenses will be covered. We will not know the exact tally of costs associated with her rehabilitation until late November, but all estimates indicate that her needs have been met. Our gratitude for all who gave to her cause cannot be adequately expressed.

Hope stays.

Two and a half months ago, Rebecca and I adopted a dog.  We just didn’t know it at the time.  I would say that she suddenly walked into our lives, but the reality is that she was on the verge of limping out of this world.

Two and a half months ago, a scared, hurt, and tired puppy began her metamorphosis into a healthy, happy, and vibrant being.  An incredible, compassionate community of dog-lovers came together and decided that this Broken Puppy could, and should, run and play again.  Domino got a new pal.  Rebecca and I got to witness a remarkable journey.

Two and a half months ago, a puppy became a metaphor and an inspiration.  The ability to conquer seemingly insurmountable challenges.  The quiet determination of a pure soul.  The realization that sometimes cautious optimism really does pay off.

Although our original intention was to rehabilitate Hope and release her into another’s care, Rebecca and I have decided that this is her forever home.  She is part of the pack, and Domino would never forgive us if she went away.  She is a great dog and we are happy to officially welcome her into our family.
